This essay intends to assess my personal spiritual growth. Though I did not grow up in an environment where children were imparted with Christian beliefs, that did not prevent me from seeking spiritual formation. In my opinion, spirituality is not necessarily associated with religion. Spirituality is about seeking our value and meaning of life, which can result in positive emotions, such as peace, awe, contentment, gratitude, and acceptance. Seeking spirituality is a process of self-identification through which we gain hope, comfort and inner peace.

I used to hold prejudice towards religions and spirituality, considering it too abstract and a waste of time. As a teenager I was rebellious and hated my teachers and parents who always seemed to find faults with me. I changed my mind when I met a neighbour. She was an elder woman and had performed domestic services for nearly thirty years. She usually taught us some creeds and stories from the Bible. From her words and stories, I got the first lesson of life about spirituality as well as the guiding principles of Christianity: “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” (Proverb 16: 32 New International Version) “For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man.”(2 Corinthians 8: 21) In the beginning “the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” (Genesis 1:2). And “there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding” (Job 32: 8)”.
最后是conclusion的总结，指出时至今日我已经在精神上变得更加成熟。从本质上讲，我是一个有缺陷的人，有时我懒惰，懦弱和自私，但我确实拥有感性和自我意识。我一直在努力克服这些弱点，我也非常感恩邻居当年的帮助。
As for now I become more mature spiritually. Spiritually I am a person with some defects, sometimes I am lazy, coward and selfish, yet I do possess sensibility and self-awareness. I have been trying to overcome those weaknesses. I have love for my family and friends, and I am sincerely grateful for the kind neighbour and professors who led me to a wonderful spiritual world, for the Biblical stories I read, the family and friends who always forgive me when I make mistakes and the boy who dumped me. They served as the reasons why I went on to discover the spirituality. Whenever I get stuck in difficulties, I can gain inner peace and epiphany through mediation. At the same time, the process of spiritual growth to me is not a religious one, but an enlightening one. The spiritual maturity is an endless journey. I will continue to seek the spirituality by the Bible study, jogging and through meditation.
